The difference between metal and iron beds
Many people like the idea of metal bed frames, but they may not be the best choice.
‘What some don’t know is that metal bed frames are usually imported from China or India, and are easily broken,’ says Harry Thompson, director of Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Company.
Although similar to the untrained eye, Harry stresses that iron bed frames are slightly more expensive simply because they are better quality and value for money.
‘Iron beds are handmade, welded together and powder coated by professionals. They are incredibly durable and ours actually come with a lifetime guarantee.’
Why make iron beds?
The Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Company is a family-owned and run business based in Norfolk. After speaking to Harry, it’s clear that both him and his family are very passionate about what they do.
‘We established the company after my mum ordered some iron beds online from a high street retailer. They looked high-end on the website, but when they arrived, she was deeply disappointed with the quality.
Being eco-conscious, the company is also carbon neutral and dedicated to helping the environment and discouraging a ‘wasteful society’.
‘We are the only iron bed company in the UK that offers a lifetime guarantee. It’s true what they say; you buy cheap, you buy twice.
‘By investing that little bit more, you could have a bed for life and help towards a more sustainable future,’ Harry says.
Bespoke beds made-to-measure in the UK
Recognised by The Guild of Master Craftsmen, Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Company hand make all their beds in their workshop on the Sandringham Estate.
‘The beds we make – iron, brass, copper, nickel and even outdoor beds – are bespoke and made-to-order,’ says Harry.
‘You can customise the size, style, and colour of the bed, and we can raise or lower the headboard, tailboard and side rails to suit you.’
They also sell quality mattresses, natural bedding (made using British wool), and bed bases, allowing you to raise your bed temporarily.
‘We really are a one-stop-shop for your personalised sleep retreat.’
Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Company showcases its craftmanship at its showroom in Swaffham – located not too far outside central London, and easy to get to by car or train.
‘Please contact us to book an appointment to visit us at the showroom. Not only does this help us manage social distancing, but it means we can fully dedicate our time to you,’ concludes Harry.
