Easy pieces
Another case of home-grown design to be proud about: the launch of Murmur, a brand-new homewares collection from bedding specialists, Bedeck. Taking inspiration from its Northern Irish base, with more than a nod to Scandi artisanal looks, the range of 220 products has been carefully designed to cover off everything from hand-painted crockery to block-printed textiles, via basketware, kitchenalia and even stationery. Prices from £4; launches 10 September on murmur.co.uk

Downstairs tips for upstairs types
This book could do for housekeeping what Delia’s How to Cook did for a generation of cooks. It’s a back-to-basics guide to what you need to know in order to keep your home spick, span and generally gorgeous – comprehensively tackling every practicality from how to clean stains off a marble work surface to the best way to organise a laundry cupboard. Keeping House by Cindy Harris (Ryland, Peters & Small, £16.99) is available to readers of The Resident for the special price of £11.99 (inc p&p). To order, call Macmillan Direct on 01256 302 699 and quote reference GLR DY1.

Cut some rug
Deirdre Dyson, the fine artist and designer rug doyenne, has completely revamped her Chelsea HQ to create a gallery-like space befitting her gorgeous, grown-up bespoke rugs and carpets. The opening neatly coincides with the publishing of her first book, Walking on Art (Thames & Hudson, £38).

The return to glamour has brought about the resurgence of the cocktail cart. Here are four of our favourites…

PSSST: Yes, it’s that time of year again when a myriad of exciting events take place all over the capital as part of London Design Festival. I highly recommend trying to get to some of them, whether that’s the big-name shows such as Design Junction and 100% Design, or the smaller openings and launches taking place across the seven official design districts. 19-27 September; londondesignfestival.com
