The Slim House in Battersea, which measures just 7ft 7in wide, is one of London’s original ‘gap houses’ – and now it’s now up for sale
The Slim House on St John’s Hill was originally the stable access to the rear of the high street, and later became one of London’s original ‘gap houses’, making it one of the slimmest properties in the capital.
In 2013, London-based architecture studio Alma-nac was appointed by the property’s then owners to draw up plans for a three-storey extension to create an extra room on each floor, increasing floor space by just over a third to 1,058 sq ft.
The extension, which created a dining area in the kitchen/living room, an enlarged master bedroom and new bedroom on a top floor, comes under a unique ‘ski slope’ roof at the back of the house, which helps bring in natural light on each storey.
Situated within a conservation area, The Slim House now comprises two reception rooms on the ground floor, with a kitchen/breakfast room to the rear that leads out to a 48 ft landscaped garden.
The second floor includes the master bedroom with dressing room and shower room, as well as an additional bedroom, while the third floor has two bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Key design features include bespoke integrated shelving units, storage and a loft above the top floor, while main southerly facing rooms benefit from increased head-heights and an outlook to the garden and sky.
