Caroline Hawking from Hamptons International Westminster office is free wheeling as Hamptons sponsors the Open Garden Squares Weekend again this year
A personal highlight this spring has been purchasing our classic Hamptons Pashley bike – my colleagues and I have long used Barclays Bikes to nip around Pimlico and Westminster but with the summer around the corner, obtaining our own bike was long overdue. A number of our neighbouring offices have been on two wheels for some time – and I felt with the Tour de France due in the Mall next month, the time was upon us to commit to being that bit greener, if a little more windswept on arrival at appointments.
On the matter of ‘going green’ we are proud to be print sponsors of the Open Garden Squares Weekend organised by the London Parks and Gardens Trust in association with the National Trust. The weekend is running on the 14 and 15 of June, and locally both Warwick Square and Eccleston Square will open their gates to ticket holders and are sure to look at their very best with the combination of a mild winter and plenty of spring rain! Over 200 gardens – many normally closed to the public – will participate in this hugely popular event.
Many of the gardens host activities, and there are a number of walks all detailed together with information about tickets on their website. Last year, my husband and I hopped on our bikes and headed for south west London visiting Carlyle’s House then stopping off at Daylesford Organic on the Pimlico Road for an Alfresco lunch. This year, we’re planning to head for Holborn and Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
Aside from our green plans we have been busy on the rental front with applicant demand for rental properties growing by 14% year on year, which I anticipate in the coming months will result in investors potentially returning to the market while mortgage finance is still relatively cheap. The supply of good quality rental properties has certainly held us back, and this lack in supply is due to our sales department’s success and central London as a whole is seeing property values soar.
Days can be long as an agent, but we’re lucky being situated on the Belgrave Road to have a fabulous choice of cafes and delis on our door step. Tenants and buyers are often asking for our advice on where to go to and the consensus seems to be that Pimlico Fresh on Wilton Street is one of the best. See you there!
