Create a cosy home with these four key new interior trends for autumn 2016, from glamourous gothic to world traveller…

Story: Kara O’Reilly

1 Gothic glamour
Think the dark side of fairytales. This look blends folk motifs, deep hues, a sprinkle of Victoriana, highlights of gold and brass, plus macabre motifs – from faux animal skulls to stuffed birds.

2 Earth tones
This look nods back to the favoured colours of 70s decorating schemes – all ochres, burnt oranges, mustards and tans – while also making a nod to seasonal autumnal shades.

3 World traveller
The interiors crowd are still loving the notion of a global village, cherry-picking a whole plethora of worldly patterns and traditions while favouring an artisan feel.

4 New Nordic
The updated Scandi look focuses on sensual appeal with the use of tactile sheepskin, marble and brass, plus a palette of easy-to-live-with muted neutrals.
