Barchick, the drinks connoisseur, picks her favourite bars, pubs and cocktail spots in Notting Hill, Kensal Rise and Queen’s Park…
1 Portobello Star, Notting Hill
Old fashioned boozer turned classic cocktail joint, Portobello Star is the only place this side of Spain to get stuck into your gin. And if you’re not content with just a killer cocktail, they even have their own Ginstitute upstairs where you can make your own. Wash your gin down with old school classics and a cool crowd.

2 The Shop, Kensal Rise
The guys behind this place are laid-back, cool, and creative – and that’s exactly what this bar is all about. Since everything in here is for sale (hence the name), you could come drinking and leave with a vintage print or a new cocktail making skill learnt in one of their masterclasses. BarChick recommends going experimental with the Once Loved served in a vintage milk bottle.

3 The Alice House, Queen’s Park
This place is all about vintage chic, innovative cocktails, craft beer and a relaxing atmosphere to kick back in. This intimate and glamorous bar is perfect for pretty much any occasion with a vintage glamour and urban art feel. Great for boozy brunches for the hangover, huge roasts for those lazy Sundays, awesome drinks and DJs at the weekends.

4 Ostuni, Queen’s Park
Dedicated to the food and wine from Puglia, if you’re looking to get your Italian fix then this is the place. It’s all about simplicity and flavour and, if the weather will let you, take a seat on their outdoor terrace and enjoy traditional pastas, wild sea bass and octopus stew. Wash it all down with negronis, Italian spritz and espresso martinis.

5 The Parlour, Kensal Rise
The Parlour is Kensal Rise’s newest kid on the block. Hanging where The Regent used to be it’s still got some old-school pub features, only it’s been spruced up with white tiles, a tree out the back and a sexy blue bar. If you fancy cocktails you’ve come to the right place. Feeling fruity? Sip on homemade 5Alive and tequila in the Vicky & Bert’s Wedding Punch. Feeling like something smooth? Not-In-Hill is made with vanilla vodka, lavender syrup, lemon juice, egg white and tastes like some kind of silky lemon meringue pie.
