It’s nearly impossible to get an allotment in London, right? Wrong! The Beautiful Allotment is a new drinking and dining space in the city with seasonal cocktails, BBQ platters plenty of space for walk-ins and larger parties – hello summer!
Just when you thought London’s alfresco drinking scene couldn’t get any better, along comes Beautiful Allotment. Set to launch on 25 July, the new alfresco hangout by the team behind Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings delivers a pocket of English countryside right into east London.
Taking up residency in the Geffrye Museum’s Victorian gardens, Hoxton, the serene oasis will feature day beds, potting sheds, cocktail bars and BBQ areas, all set among trailing plants, vegetable patches, repurposed items and handpicked pieces of furniture to create a beautiful outdoor destination.
Cocktails curated by the Bourne & Hollingsworth team will be fresh, seasonal and sustainable, using ingredients grown on the grounds.
Roaming ‘gardentenders’ with wheel-barrow bars will deliver drinks as you lounge on the sofa among the home-grown plants. The food will almost be entirely BBQ-led and locally sourced, with ever-changing platters of vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat dishes.
And because nobody likes public transport in summertime, there will also be a tractor pulling a 30-seat vintage trailer available to ferry you and your pals to and from the allotment.
Once on-board, a resident bar-tender will whip up botanical cocktails for the duration of the journey.
As well as an idyllic place to casually pop into for cocktails with a few friends, there will also be a series of special events, from movie night screenings to workshops and live music, taking place throughout the summer.
Bookings can be made for parties of four or more through the website and there will be unreserved spaces for smaller groups of walk-ins. There will also be bookable garden areas for larger gatherings. Long flower tables will be available for parties of 30-100 and guests will be able to book a rustic potting shed, greenhouse dome or airy polytunnel.
Open 4pm-11pm, Wednesday to Sunday from 25 July until 3 September.
