SOUTH WEST LONDON’S FOOD & DRINK NEWS JULY 2016

Check out the best new foodie treats south west London has to offer this summer, from biodynamic wines at Cellar SW4 in Clapham to barbecues and DJs at the brand new MeatUp in Wandsworth and, of course, the recently opened Ivy Café in Wimbledon

Words: Madeleine Howell

1 MeatUp, Wandsworth
It’s time for Bibendum Prosecco, barbecues and a fresh soundscape at the new MeatUp in Wandsworth, promising premium aged steaks, fresh lobster, shellfish and ribs along with DJs and tempting cocktails in an industrial interior.

2 The terrace at Royal China, Fulham
The outdoor terrace of the Royal China in Fulham is surrounded by foliage and is the perfect spot in which to enjoy traditional dim sum and fine Chinese cuisine on balmy evenings. The tasty little parcels they do so well originate from Canton, and are prepared daily by Head Chef Man Yuk Cheung. The papaya filled with steamed sweet almond and the creamy mango butter tart both make for a delicious summery dessert for afters.

3 Cellar SW4, Clapham
Cellar SW4 has arrived on Clapham’s Voltaire Road, where you can now savour a wine list with organic ideals. The succinct wine list features a quaffable Champagne Gimmonet Premier Cru for date night, a white Eva Fricke Riesling for lovers of German wines, and a Crittenden Estate Pinot Noir for red wine guzzlers. Pair with the cheese board and tuck into the white bean dip to really treat your taste buds. From the gang behind D Vine Cellars on Landor Road, we’d expect nothing less.

4 Belpassi Bros in Tooting
Twin brothers Livio and Lorenzo Belpassi, famed for their Spitalfields outpost, have opened a permanent version of their much-loved meatball truck in Tooting. The menu is built around their classic beef and pork meatball topped with homemade sauces and a selection of cicchetti and salumi, plus daily desserts – all inspired by their own Italian heritage and a street food crusade to Rome and across Northern and Central Italy.

5 Counter Vauxhall Arches
Beneath Vauxhall arches lies London’s longest restaurant, Counter Vauxhall Arches. This season, you can indulge in a cabaret show with your dinner every Saturday or enjoy a cocktail with a jazz set on Thursdays. The new spring menu harnesses the vibrancy of the season with bold flavours – there’s white asparagus with basil mayonnaise, fruits de mer with saffron aioli and a tart rhubarb pannacotta – and the obligatory highly alcoholic Vauxhall Vesper cocktail.

The much-awaited Ivy Café has arrived in Wimbledon, and it really is wonderful. The terrace is an intimate setting for a rendezvous over lobster risotto with fennel, served with a London Spritz – Earl Grey gin, orange and Prosecco. And that’s not to mention elevenses, cream teas and gluttonous weekend brunches…
