SIPSMITH SUMMER COCKTAILS AT FOXLOW RESTAURANTS

Foxlow in Balham has embraced the renaissance of gin, joining forces with Sipsmith Distillery to create five exclusive summer cocktails

Words: Madeleine Howell

If you haven’t been to The Owl cocktail bar yet, you’ve got a treat in store. Hidden in the basement of Foxlow restaurant in Balham (which serves the best kind of comfort food in town – think steak from The Ginger Pig and Graceburn cheese from Brockley) are some of the best cocktails we’ve tasted. We love the Bay Bridge, with pisco, mint, green tea and frozen grapes.

Now, Foxlow has launched five new cocktails for summer across their restaurants in Stoke Newington, Chiswick, Clerkenwell and Balham. We can’t get enough of them. My personal favourite is the fresh-tasting Strawberry Beret, with sweet strawberries, London Dry Gin and the hydrating addition of coconut water. The 6 O’clock Cup with watermelon and the Chiswick Summer Punch with tart rhubarb are also pretty tempting.

The mix of refreshing cocktails served with homely meals is a winning combination and a guaranteed pick-me-up. The menu revolves around a real charcoal grill and includes a hearty brunch, Sunday roasts, signature steaks, slow-smoked meat and seasonal salads. Its family friendly, but you couldn’t go far wrong on a date either.

We ordered two starters to share – the Brixham squid and the pea and mint salad with yoghurt dressing. For mains, although it may seem an obvious choice, my companion went for the Foxlow Cheeseburger with 28 day dry-aged Angus rump, rib and bavette steak, which didn’t disappoint. I obviously had to try the Rib Eye with roast tomatoes and bone marrow. Our expectations of proper grub were confirmed. We left full and happy – and not a little heavier…
