Us Londoners rarely need an excuse to drink gin but if you do, World Gin Day is it. In anticipation of the day, 14th June, Tanqueray Ambassador and expert cocktail mixologist Tim Homewood picks his top five bars to drink gin in London
1 The Lucky Pig, Fitzrovia
Why go? This is a great little spot to feel a bit clandestine, descend the stairs to a beautiful little space which reeks of prohibition cool.
What to order: I’ll order a 1920’s inspired cocktail called Bee’s Knees, it’s being created and served in time for World Gin Day by the head bartender and is a beautiful concoction of lavender-infused Tanqueray Gin, lemon juice and honey.
2 Worship Street Whistling Shop, Shoreditch
Why go? A little slice of Victoriana, modelled on a 1800’s gin shop, there’s few better places in London to enjoy gin how it would have been in the olden days.
What to order: If you want a cocktail you can guarantee you’ve never tried before, go for the Ishakari Fizz – it’s new to the menu for World Gin Day and ingredients include cold jasmine tea and yuzu juice
3 COLD Distillery, Blackfriars
Why go? A beautiful gin distillery in the heart of London, smell the juniper in the air and marvel at the wonderful shining copper pot still.
What to order: A Negroni is on the menu for me when I swing by here, a timeless classic
4 Connaught Bar, Mayfair
Why go? One of the shining lights of the London Hotel scene, this bar just churns out amazing bartenders who really know their way around a bottle of gin!
What to order: It’s all about a crisp Gin Martini with Tanqueray No. Ten when you’re in such elegant surroundings as this.
5 Satan’s Whiskers, Bethnal Green
Why go? This is one of my favourite new bars in town, enjoy amazing drinks in dark yet welcoming neighbourhood surroundings with one of the coolest playlists in London
What to order: Their drinks change daily, but last time I was there the Hackney Fizz went down a treat
