RESTAURANT REVIEW: CRIB DE RIB

Conveniently located on Gloucester Road by Kensington High Street, Crib de Rib offers a stylish atmosphere and a delicious all-American grill menu that will have you coming back for seconds, says Cassie Smith

Crib de Rib re-opened in September following a refurbishment of the restaurant interior. The resulting look is a space that’s both funky and elegant. Upstairs, sophisticated French-style chandeliers dazzle diners in the main dining room. Downstairs has a funkier feel to it with inspiration from the elusive artist known as 79. Crib de Rib managed to find one of 79’s exciting, geometrical patterns for its wall and the colours in the wallpaper are accented throughout the downstairs dining area with colourful decor, which makes this a vibrant and fun spot to begin a night out, whether you’re eating or are just there for drinks.

The selection of cocktails adds to the lively spirit that Crib de Rib embodies. Perch at the cocktail bar upstairs or downstairs, and order fruity cocktails with creative names like the Berryssimo cocktail, made with Vodka, a purée of raspberries and strawberries and lemon and cranberry juice: a refreshingly sweet aperitif.

It’s not just the cocktails that pack serious punch at Crib de Rib; in true American style, portion sizes are extremely generous and left us more than full. The Chilli Squid appetizer is served with a tangy Cribelicious sauce that complements the lightly battered squid perfectly and the beef ribs should not be overlooked – they’re marinated in the Crib’s homemade sauces for 24 hours and are then cooked for four hours. Not in the mood for barbecue? Crib de Rib offers a number of other options, like the saddle of line caught Sea Bass. If you have room left for dessert, try the fresh basil pannacotta with basil sorbet. It’s a different kind of dessert that’s light but creamy.

While the food alone is likely to bring you back to Crib de Rib, the attentive service is sure to make you a regular at this friendly restaurant. Food comes out rapidly and servers are on the ball but not over the top.
