The Cheese Bar in Camden is upping its commitment to perfecting the art of grilled cheese by hosting a one-day Grilled Cheese Invitational on 14 September 2017
Mathew Carver, who founded street-food favourite The Cheese Truck in 2014 before opening his first permanent restaurant, The Cheese Bar, at Camden Stables Market earlier this year, has invited five of London’s best to put their stamp on grilled cheese during the inaugural event.
Taking their place on the menu will be Josh Katz and Mattia Bianchi from Middle Eastern maestros Berber & Q, Harneet Baweja of East London favourite Gunpowder, Decatur’s Tom Browne, a specialist in all things Louisianan, founders of Pizza Pilgrims James & Thom, and Head Chef of taco experts El Pastor, Tomasz Baranski.
The event, which will see the five chefs challenging Mathew by pitting their signature styles against each other, is being held to raise awareness and vital funds for Help Refugees UK. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the charity, which acts where governmental and other non-governmental bodies are unable to in order to help those displaced by war in Europe and beyond.
And there’s just one rule – the cheese must be British, since The Cheese Bar’s philosophy is to champion Britain’s best. The restaurant’s menu champions the new breed of urban cheese makers, crafting produce within the M25, including La Latteria, Gringa Dairy in Peckham and Kupros, which produces 100% English sheep’s milk Halloumi.
Diners will enjoy a grilled cheese set menu priced at £20, including any beer and any glass of wine. So who will be crowned the grilled cheese champion?
Unit 93 and 94 Camden Market, North Yard, Chalk Farm Road NW1 8AH. Bookings will be available for two or more people from 6pm on 14 September 2017 via firstname.lastname@example.org
