If you thought the cereal cafe was a bit nuts, it seems Londoners have officially gone crackers, or at least that’s what Jacob’s will be hoping, when it launches the world’s first Cracker Restaurant at the end of June
Open for one day only, on 22 June 2017, the pop-up will serve an exclusive, one-off lunch and dinner tasting menu devised by Jacob’s with Alex James and served entirely on Jacob’s Lunchtime crackers – Ciabatta, Crispbreads, Flatbreads and Cream Crackers. Oh, and it’s entirely free!
Musician, foodie and cheesemaker Alex James aims to turn ordinary, every-day ingredients into something extraordinary to inspire people to get creative with crackers.
‘I’ve always thought that cheese and crackers go together like bread and butter – the perfect match, made in heaven,’ says Alex James. ‘But working on the tasting menu for the Jacob’s Cracker Restaurant, I’ve discovered a whole new world of delicious combinations – both sweet and savoury – and it’s been so much fun letting my imagination run wild.
‘I hope people are inspired to create their own magnificent concoctions at home once they try some of our Jacob’s recipes.”
The restaurant will serve up a five-course lunch and six-course dinner menu using fresh, seasonal British ingredients. Lunch will include a selection of brunch-style dishes including poached eggs and a Jacob’s spin on beans-on-toast, while dinner includes British classics with a twist like prawn cocktail – which any child of the 70s or 80s will love – and roast beef.
The restaurant will be located at 35 Neal Street, London WC2H 9PR.
