THE LIDO CAFE LAUNCHES POOLSIDE SUMMER DINING

Celebrate summer with an urban beach BBQ at Brixton beach – The Lido Cafe in Herne Hill has launched a new summer menu to make the most of its Mediterranean-esque poolside space in Brockwell Park with cool cocktails and summery seasonal bites

Choose from light bites like locally-baked sourdough bread with cold pressed rapeseed oil and dukka, small plates such as homemade beetroot-cured Severn and Wye smoked salmon and grills like dry-aged Longhorn rump steak with chimichurri and twice-cooked chips or chargrilled marinated free-range chicken. There’s a great burger too – the renowned Longhorn beef burger with house sauce and Gloucester Old Spot bacon.

Vegetarians might opt for the quinoa burger with harissa dressing or healthy vegetarian and vegan salads featuring heritage carrots with beansprouts, pak choi, spring onion, chilli and ginger.

The summer specials will change frequently to champion the freshest fare, kicking off with cracking crab from the South Coast served simply with sourdough bread, salted butter and mayonnaise. There will also be a monthly limited-edition scotch egg, starting with July’s Black Watch (free-range egg encased in a rich mix of Stornaway black pudding and Old Spot pork mince and coated in Panko breadcrumbs) accompanied by sweet roasted garlic aioli.

For dessert, diners can take their pick from irresistible sweet treats such as a vibrant passionfruit and mango mess, as well as an impressive selection of artisan gelato and sorbets by the team’s expert friends at Gelupo in Soho, with regularly rotating flavours like strawberries and cream, brazil nut, and cherry.

An exclusive collection of summer cocktails developed with the local area in mind will top it all off, including the Herne Hill Hugo (elderflower liqueur, Prosecco, soda, lemon and fresh mint), Brixton Sour (a contemporary take on the classic New York sour) and Kachumber Cooler (British Gin muddled with fresh coriander, green chillies and cucumber).

On Prosecco Wednesday, glasses of bubbly San Martino Frizzante and the cafe’s current handpicked fizz cocktail will be available for just £3 each throughout the day and long into the night.

The new summer menu is available every Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm.
