From new breakfast delivery companies and delicious baker’s boxes, to Michelin stars in Bermondsey, this is South east London’s essential food news for November 2014
Stevie Parle opens new restaurant in Greenwich
Stevie Parle, one of Britain’s brightest young chefs, has opened a new venture at Greenwich Peninsula, along with designer Tom Dixon. Craft London is a café-roastery, with a restaurant and bar set to follow in early 2015. The project, which is part of the new residential and commercial hub by the O2 Arena, follows on from Stevie’s success in west London with Dock Kitchen and more recently, Rotorino in Dalston, and will see him collaborating with top quality producers.
Restaurant Story retains Michelin star
Restaurant Story on Tooley Street opened in April 2013, gaining its first Michelin star only five months after opening. And it’s just made the list for 2015 too – making it the only Michelin-stared restaurant in a south east London postcode. Inspired by chef Tom Sellers’ culinary career and the history of British food, Story’s dishes are an edible story, each one inspired by a memory and created using only the freshest seasonal British produce. Zagat, Hottest Restaurant in the World – Where to eat now, 2014, said, ‘if you’re longing to visit Fat Duck but don’t want to make the trek, Story is the next best thing.’

Wise Owl Tea’s organic loose leaf teas, served up in silky tea temples, is a Great Taste 2014 winner. The company was born of Crystal Palace resident Steve Ellis’ love of travelling to far off lands and experiencing local cuisines and the way native cultures use herbal infusions for their health benefits. The Antiguan Cinnamon Spice, Bali Bamboo Leaf and Tahitian Night Night were all awarded a gold star.

Bakers gift boxes for Christmas
The Sweet Reason Company, founded this year by East Dulwich resident Suzie Godfrey, combines gourmet products and flavours to create a gift we all want to receive. Our gifts can be sent for any occasion. There are standard boxes we have picked for you, or you can select a bespoke box so you can choose exactly what you want in your gift. After researching many local bakers Suzie came across Maria from The SE Cakery. Maria is a very successful local baker who specialises in brownies, from salted caramel to peanut butter, coconut to banoffee, in fact every sort of brownie you can imagine.
