Budge over cupcakes! The popularity of baking continues to rise, and with the Cake & Bake Show on the horizon, we ask celebrity chefs and star bakers due to appear at the show for their tips on the next baking trend…
1 YouTube, says Eric Lanlard, Master Patissier
It’s all about YouTube – top bakers and chefs are producing their own content to upload on their own channels. I launched my channel six weeks ago and already it has almost 6,000 global subscribers. Food is such a visual medium – where better to see a recipe come to life than through the TV screen? I also think we’re going to see more and more delicious variations on my favourite American classic – red velvet cake. American baking goes beyond cupcakes!
2 Pastry, says Rosemary Shrager, TV chef
The great thing about The Great British Bake Off is that it’s teaching the nation the technical aspects of baking – people have finally realised that making your own pastry is not so complicated and it makes your bake so much more delicious. You can’t beat homemade pastry!
3 French patisserie, says Edd Kimber, the first GBBO champion
Finally people are waking up to these wonderful treats that are a delight and remind me so much of my childhood holidays spent in France. My new book, Patesserie Made Simple, takes its direction from the French classics.
4 Homemade chocolate, says John Whaite, winner of GBBO series 3
People now have a much better understanding of chocolate and are now wanting to learn how to make their own chocolate, so I predicts the rise and rise of homemade chocolate. It’s definitely something that will be on the classroom schedule of my new cookery school.
5 The KitchenAid, says a Cake & Bake Show insider
The return of the kitchen icon – KitchenAid Stand Mixers are a must-have. A beautiful, iconic statement piece. No serious baker would be without one. For the lightest of sponges, the smoothest batters and glossiest meringues.
The Cake & Bake Show is the ‘go to’ for baking expertise and inspiration, from celebrity bakers and skills classes to live bake offs and the latest sugarcraft and baking equipment. Returning to Earl’s Court from 3-5 October, the show welcomes some of the top names in baking, who will be demonstrate their expertise in the live theatre areas
