Summer is on its way! Londoners looking to cool down with indulgent gelatos will soon find themselves surrounded by sugary options that strain belts. But there’s one store in London selling gelato without an accompanying slab of guilt. Check out the deliciously healthy online store, Coppa della Maga…
Coppa della Maga means ‘The Bowl of the Magician’ and the name holds true. This online store was created by ice cream lovers who aspired to nutritious living but had been disappointed by the taste of ‘healthy ice creams’ in the past. The goal of Coppa della Maga was to offer a traditional Italian gelato that was free of sugar, but at the same time didn’t compromise taste. Here’s how they did it:
Coppa della Maga products are made with 100% all natural products and sweetened with stevia, a plant extract that is naturally three times as sweet as sugar without the caloric penalties. Coppa della Maga comes in a range of flavours from classics like Vanilla and Strawberry, to exclusives like Yoghurt & Rose Petals and Grapefruit & Bergamot. And even better, all Coppa della Maga products are free of soy, gluten, eggs, GMOs and hydrogenated fats. The end result is a light, guilt-free gelato with a smooth texture, sourced from finest ingredients from around the world. It tastes like it should have sugar in it—but doesn’t.
Having survived a variety of sugar-free ice creams that have the consistency of watery cardboard, at first I was sceptical. But after tasting Coppa della Maga myself, I was sold. I tried a wide variety of flavours including Chocolate, Pistachio—with real crumbled pistachios on top—Sesame & Honey and Yoghurt & Rose Petals. Made with real cream and milk, each and every one remained rich and thick, flavourful and satisfying. It’s a light touch that makes Coppa della Maga great, with bright flavours and fresh ingredients.
A chocoholic myself, I was a fan of the chocolate shavings dusted on top of their Chocolate, which I found to be one of the richest options. It was hard to believe it was sugar-free. But there’s a special place in my heart—and my freezer—for Yoghurt & Rose Petals, which had a subtle, sweet rose finish and the pleasing hint of tartness you’d expect from a dash of yoghurt. The tiny real rose petals mixed in were simply amazing.
The brains behind Coppa della Maga are experimenting with new flavours all the time. There’s a new vegan strawberry and coconut sorbet slated to arrive in April.
