THE BROOKMILL PUB LAUNCHES IN DEPTFORD

There’s much to celebrate in Deptford at the moment. As well as the launch of Deptford Market Yard with some fantastic independent businesses opening under the railway arches, there’s also a brand new pub to hang out in, The Brookmill, just over the road from Brookmill Park

The Brookmill is sister pub to The Great North Wood in West Norwood and shares its modern pub philosophy – a community hub offering gastro food and drink in a cosy environment. The new place also serves up a killer scotch egg, and has a fantastic courtyard beer garden.

Head Chef Olly Marlowe, previously of both Michelin-starred The Glasshouse and Chez Bruce, champions simplicity and has created a menu that celebrates classic pub grub with The Brookmill’s signature twist. Expect dishes like Ham hock and gruyere pie with onion purée and roasting juices and Roast cornish cod with ‘nduja risotto, salted almonds, aioli and pecorino. Sunday roasts are, of course, on the menu for the weekend.

The bar serves up craft beers from neighbouring breweries such as Brockley Brewery, The Kernel Brewery and Brick Brewery, as well as natural and organic wines come a little further afield from Davenport Vineyards in East Sussex. In fact, the whole of the wine list at The Brookmill has been thoughtfully compiled with the emphasis on wines that follow a natural production ethos, including an English sparkling wine.

The cocktails are pretty good too – do try a Kamm fizz, similar ot an Aperol Spritz but made with Kamm, an aperitif with 45 natural botanicals including herbs, spices, fruits, berries, nuts, roots, leaves and flowers, blended with prosecco and elderflower. For those needing a caffeine hit throughout the week, coffee comes from Dulwich-based roastery, Volcano Coffee.

The Brookmill also displays local artists’ work and the courtyard beer garden features a garden mural created in partnership with Deptford Does Art. The pub also offers membership for locals looking for an extra bang for their buck – claim redeemable points on every pound spent at the pub, plus a free meal on your birthday (sign up via the landing page on the website).
