Hammersmith’s new tapas restaurant evokes memories of lazy lunches in the sun. Toro Gordo, King Street’s first Spanish tapas restaurant, is brought to west London by the former chef of Soho’s La Bodega Negra

The first Spanish tapas restaurant and bar has arrived on King Street. Toro Gordo or ‘Fat Bull’ as it translates has a great bar serving an array of drinks, from fine Spanish wines to fiery Latino and Asian infused cocktails. Open daily for lunch and dinner as well as weekend brunch, it’s the first restaurant from Spanish-born restaurateur Miguel Caffarena, formerly of La Bodega Negra in Soho. With a background in film, the restaurant’s been mapped out as if it were a film, transporting guests to another world of rustic industrial interiors peppered with Asian influences such as Vietnamese lanterns and a Japanese anime wall. From the open-plan kitchen, the menu features simple dishes with authentic flavours from pinchitos and tostas to seafood, meat, vegetarian dishes and salads, which can all be enjoyed while listening to the eclectic playlists which take in hip hop, funk and laid back reggae as well as Latino tracks.
