Looking for a restaurant in Richmond that’s about more than just the food? Richmond has tons to offer those who are seeking a stylish backdrop to some serious dining

1 Petersham Nurseries
The now infamous café at Petersham Nurseries is one of London’s prettiest places to dine. Surrounded by foliage and sat at pretty wrought-iron tables, it’s hard to imagine a more serene space. Food is, unsurprisingly, focussed around fresh first-rate produce, prepared with an Italian accent by culinary director Lucy Boyd. There are also regular supper clubs – see the website for details.

2 The Dysart
Located in an old Arts and Crafts building dating back to 1904, The Dysart Arms makes the most of its original character. Inside the restaurant is cosy and warm, full of period charm, while outside a magical garden becomes an alfresco dining room in the spring and summer, lit only by candles. The menu is adjusted according to what food comes in and the restaurant follows the Slow Food Movement’s approach, getting natural ingredients, grown or foraged locally, avoiding additives or lots of sugar, and cooking dishes simply so their flavour stands out.

3 The Bingham
Tucked away beside the river, the Bingham is one of Richmond’s real gems. The boutique hotel is set in a Georgian townhouse overlooking the Thames and its eponymous restaurant is a lovely spot for romantic dinners and special occasions. Newly-appointed head chef Mark Jarvis heads up the kitchen, serving modern British food and traditional roasts on Sundays. The light and airy dining room is all chic neutrals and art deco mirrors inside, with a decked terrace outside that looks out over the gardens and riverside, as far as settings go in London, this one is hard to beat.
