Chelsea and Fulham’s Asian restaurant scene is driving the pulse of the area at the moment. It all started with Kurobuta, the pop-up that never left and is now opening a second permanent site on King’s Road later in the year. Then there was Ramusake, the private members’ restaurant in South Kensington and now Zinnia joins the gang. This new all-day Japanese fusion restaurant and lounge opened at the end of last year on Fulham Road.

Step inside the Georgian building that Zinnia is houses in and you’ll find an opulent Japanese restaurant. In the lounge, reclaimed timber topped tables mix with leather banquette seats, ebony stained wood panels and gold fretwork screens, which divide the bar from the more formal dining area. The focal point however is the long table-style front bar with a stone counter and shiny lacquer-finished oak legs. The restaurant area features sumptuous Oriental black and gold décor, a large feature fireplace and flickering candles.

Cocktails are a big feature on the menu at Zinnia, particularly those with Japanese whisky and sake in them. Pop in for a bento boxes, light sharing plates and sushi at lunch time, while afternoons are all about the Asian-inspired tea: pastries, cakes and tarts baked daily in Zinnia and serves with cups of steaming Flora Tea. Highlights on the evening a la carte menu include the likes of sushi with Ahi tuna and Hamachi, Dorset crab, aged sirloin tataki and miso black cod,
