Fine-dining doesn’t come cheap, but it doesn’t have to be a wallet-decimating blow-out either. If you want to treat yourself without destroying personal finances, here are the restaurants to go to in London for a Michelin star meal for under £100.

1 Cornerstone by Chef Tom Brown, Hackney Wick

Opened in April 2018, and with a Michelin star by 2021, Cornerstone is the first restaurant by Nathan Outlaw (Rick Stien) protégé, Tom Brown. The snug 36-cover restaurant is produced led, with a focus on seafood, which is caught daily and prepared to create simple, clean dishes. The tasting menu comes with eight dishes, including sea bream tartare with egg yolk and soy;  cured gurnard, leek, potato and Vichyssoise dressing; and Hake kyiv with Café de Paris butter and Jerusalem artichoke.

2 Luca, Clerkenwell

Earning its first Michelin star this year, this Clerkenwell Italian restaurant is part of the Clove Club Group whose eponymous flagship restaurant comes with two stars.  Cooking British ingredients in traditional Italian style, Luca’s Chef’s menu offers a selection of antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci courses of the likes of smoked cod’s roe with blood orange and pickled fennel; tagliatelle with rabbit, green olives, lardo di colonnata and parmesan as well as Hebridean lamb with wild garlic, sweetbread, asparagus and sheep’s curd.

3 Casa Fofò, Hackney 

Ex-Pidgin chef Adolfo de Cecco opened this cosy little nook of a restaurant in 2019, which then went on to earn its Michelin star in 2021.  A down to earth space, with bottles of wine and fermented bits and pieces running along walls on shelves. The daily set menu is created with influences from across the globe – you’ll find Asian flavours muddled with Mediterranean cooking traditions on your plate in the form of creative and considered dishes.

Expect the likes of crab with nori and daikon; pollock with bergamot and chanterelle; tomato with kimchi and tofu; and potato with fermented tom yum and seaweed.
