2 Dishoom, Water Street

The well-loved Indian restaurant’s most recently opened venue in Canary Wharf comes with a verandah overlooking the water. Nestled in a corner of Wood Wharf, the outdoor dining space comes with a retractable awning for all weather alfresco dining – ideal for grazing on plates of sublime curries and kebabs or the chef’s special malai lobster which comes rubbed in chili and lime while quaffing a mini flight of martinis.

3 Feels Like June, Water Street

Found in Tribe Hotel in Wood Wharf, this eternally sunny West Coast-inspired restaurant serves up an all-day dining menu boating tacos, small plates and rice bowls. It also has boozy collaborations for its summer terrace, and blankets to snuggle into in the cooler months.

La Terraza by Ibérica, Cabot Square

Ideal for warm weather dining, Iberica's outdoor terrace, La Terraza, brings a little bit of European boulevard cafe culture to east London. For food, get stuck into barbequed meat and seafood, Spanish style, or some tapas, and get a jug of sangria to share. Open only in spring and summer though.

5 Caravan, Reuters Plaza

Canary Wharf's outpost of this antipodean-style cafe boasts all the charm, strong coffee and comforting cafe grub as its sister venues do. Serving brunch, breakfast and an international all-day dining menu, the restaurant has a sunny terrace which is great for a post-work drink or a bite to eat, which turns into a suntrap in summer, and comes draped in blankets in winter.

6 The Lowback, Water Street

The Lowback is part of the Hawksmoor empire and the first new bar for the steakhouse since it opened its Spitalfields site. Found on Canary Wharf's floating pavilion docks, the sprawling venue has a great terrace from which you can soak up the surrounding cityscape on.

7 Roka, Canada Square

Roka Canary Wharf’s tasting menu is the stuff of dreams. As is the à la carte – try one of Roka’s legendary sushi and sashimi platters and hot dishes inspired by Japanese and Asian cuisine. The terrace (which comes heated in winter) is a fantastic spot to dine on overlooking Canada Square Park.

The Sipping Room has a very Instagrammable, expansive Thames-side terrace which is good in winter but great in summer. Come the colder months, the restaurant hoists up several private dining igloos for drinks and meals whatever the weather is doing.

9 Boisdale Garden Terrace, Cabot Place

Boisdale of Canary Wharf's popular outdoor space is usually decked out with elaborate foliage for summer, but come winter, there's blankets and heaters. . Rest assured delicious cocktails, fine wines and plenty of fizz will be available, as well as a seasonally appropriate, and very indulgent, menu.

10 Trinity Riverside Bar, Trinity Buoy Wharf

***Currently closed*** If you stray further east that Canary Wharf, this glorious south-facing alfresco terrace by the Thames offers an expansive alfresco terrace with deckchairs and tables overlooking the river Thames and the O2 Arena.
