Oktoberfest Knees-Up arrives in Paddington in September

Munich’s Oktoberfest may be cancelled for another year however the party is not completely over. This September, Pergola Paddington transforms into Wunderbar – a horn-blaring, stein-sloshing Bavarian shindig. So brush of your lederhosen and get your drinking shoes on…

Celebrating the original and ultimate beer-bash and embracing the German concept of ‘Gemütlichkeit’ (which is much like hygge), Pergola Paddington – one of west London’s largest alfresco eating and dining halls – becomes a huge, Theresienwiese-inspired beer hall, serving up real German beers and hearty Bavarian food.

Wunderbar features live DJs, Oom-pah bands, weekend bottomless brunches, an LGBT+ party and the opportunity to be crowned Beer King and Queen of Wunderbar with a year’s supply of beer as a prize.

Putting its own spin on a traditional communal beer-hall, Wunderbar will be decorated in reds and greens and bursting with flower-laden barrels. For a more intimate experience, you can try one of the cosy Beer Huts instead.

In addition to German brews such as Spaten and Lowenbrau, beer cocktails and Schnapps, Pergola Paddington has teamed up with Camden Town Brewery to create an exclusive Oktoberfest Lager.

To soak up the booze, tuck into knödel (poached and fried potato dumplings served with a beer butter dip), or try a bratwurst baguette with caramelised onions and sauerkraut, or a hot smoked salmon flammkuchen (a kind of pizza).

For dessert, try Stollen bites (warm marzipan cake bites served with a custard dip) or the apple Berliner doughnuts – hot doughnuts filled with apple and dusted in cinnamon sugar.

Wunderbar runs for six weeks from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 31; 4 Kingdom St, W2 6PY; tickets include a stein or cocktail and start from £10, on sale here; bookings recommended;
