London’s Best New Alfresco Terraces
Spring has sprung in London and we’re all desperate to shirk off the furs and get back outside to do our alfresco thang. But where to hang? At one of London’s newly opened – or freshly revamped – outdoor terraces…

1 Dalloway Terrace, Bloomsbury
Dalloway Terrace has been transformed once again this spring with a bee-inspired interior to highlight the importance of bees. The terrace has been reimagined by master florist Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart, and is adorned with an abundance of wild English flowers creating a kaleidoscope of colour, with oversized bees laced within the blossom. A new Honey Bee-themed afternoon tea is available alongside a new seasonal menu by Executive Head Chef Byron Moussouris. Try the aptly named Bee’s Knees cocktail, with Hayman’s Gin, Fresh Pressed Lemon and London Honey (£12, with £2 being donated to the Bumble Bee Conservation Trust).

2 Pitch, Stratford
Stratford is cool now. The Olympics have packed up and moved on, the sporting legacy is questionable, but the canals and outdoor spaces speak for themselves. Pitch on Bridge Terrace off Stratford High Street has just opened ready for the Easter weekend, offering some of London’s best street food (gourmet hot dogs, souvlaki, Venezuelan food, vegan dishes), colourful, design-led (and weather-proofed!) spaces to hang out in, a craft-focused bar, Sunday DJ brunches, plus a schedule of activities and events from themed outdoor film screenings to evening classes and party nights. It’ll be a great spot to watch the World Cup, too. Open from Fri-Sun in April, Thu-Sun in May and every day in June and July. Open till autumn.

3 No 29 Power Station West, Battersea
Go explore Battersea’s new neighbourhood at Circus West Village, by the iconic Battersea Power Station. And while you’re there, be sure to make a stop at No 29 Power Station West, part of the neighbourhood bar group, Darwin & Wallace. The riverside terrace is sporting a new pergola, decorated delicately with the green buds of spring. Dine on seasonal, locally sourced food, craft beers including Five Points Pale and cocktails including house favourites Pear Bellini and Passionfruit Caipirinha. Breakfast and brunch favourites include sourdough bruschetta with roast tomatoes, spinach, avocado and crispy bacon, or ricotta pancakes with seasonal fruit. If the weather’s really playing ball, then there’s only one way to arrive – by boat. The new Battersea Power Station River Bus Pier puts the venue within 15 minutes of Embankment Pier on the Thames Clipper.

4 Devonshire Terrace, the City
Devonshire Terrace is an expansive, chic terrace with a glass atrium roof for weather-proof mock-alfresco dining and drinking. Just a stone’s throw from Liverpool Street station, this Drake & Morgan pub has had a makeover just in time for spring. The courtyard terrace is dressed with tonal textiles, tropical foliage and signature Drake & Morgan soft furnishings, while inside it’s fresh and modern with soft moss, fir and olive greens set against a neutral palette of leather, marble and timber. Be one of the first to experience the new look and menu at special soft launch prices; from 9-13 April, get 50% off food and drink, then from 16-20 April, get 25% off food and drink (valid on reservations only, email email@example.com to book).

5 The Floating Meadow and Chill Garden at Paddington Central
The Floating Meadow and Chill Garden launched at Paddington Central on 21 March – otherwise known as World Planting Day. The project has converted the Paddington Pioneer docked on Grand Union Canal into a floating floral oasis adorned in wildflowers and grasses, offering a series of green-fingered pop ups, workshops and talks in conjunction with local horticultural specialists, Clifton Nurseries. Then, at night, it becomes The Neon Garden, with an ultra-modern frameless ‘glasshouse’, akin to a greenhouse, complete with Philippe Starck furniture. The super Instagrammable Floating Meadow and Neon Garden are open until the end of April.
