South Bank's Lyaness has won World's Best Bar at Tales of the Cocktail's annual Spirited Awards.

Housed in the sublime Sea Containers, Lyaness also took home the award for Best International Hotel Bar too.

Much like a chef starts with the ingredients to create a dish, the bar team works with flavour by focussing on ingredients rather than the drinks themselves.

Led by Ryan Chetiyawardana, the bar team create elaborate concoctions with unusual flavour combinations - pig's blood, oysters and grass for example.

The results are are new takes on familiar drinks - there's a martini, but not as you know it, a gimlet, but also not as you know it, and an Americano, but also not as you know it, for example.

And f you're not sure if you like the particular taste of one ingredient, tasters are on offer.

The awards, now in its 16th year, was held in New Orleans and saw other London bars walk away winners as well.

Old Street's innovative cocktail bar, Tayēr + Elementary took home Best International Cocktail Bar, while hackney relative newcomber, A Bar With Shapes For a Name was awarded Best New International Cocktail Bar.

The bar's founder Remy Savage walked away as International Bartender of The Year

Mayfair's Sexy Fish won Best International Restaurant Bar as well.
