London Restaurant of the Year Announced at Food & Travel Reader Awards 2018
The London Restaurant of the Year was announced at the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2018 this week, alongside accolades for restaurants, chefs and hotels across the UK
The seventh annual Food and Travel Reader Awards were hosted at The Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall, attended by leading names in food, drink and travel including Simon Rogan, Francesco Mazzei, Mark Sargeant, José Pizarro and Gizzi Erskine.
With three London restaurant’s taking home notable accolades, it’s time to update your dining-out lust list. The coveted London Restaurant of the Year award went to Wild Honey in Mayfair, a modern European restaurant launched by Chef Anthony Demetre in 2007, while Newcomer Restaurant of the Year went to Frog by Adam Handling in Covent Garden. Tom Brown of Cornerstone in Hackney took home the Breakthrough Chef of the Year award.
But with big wins across the UK, you’d better dust off that #staycation hashtag, too, and start planning weekends away to the likes of Hampshire, Yorkshire and Cumbria to sample Britain’s best destination dining, as voted for by Food and Travel readers. Notable winners across the UK included:
Hampshire’s Chewton Glen for both Rural Hotel of the Year and Hotel of the Year Yorkshire’s The Black Swan for Restaurant of the Year and Restaurant of the Year Outside London Simon Rogan’s two-star Cumbria restaurant L’Enclume for Timeless Classic Restaurant of the Year Two Michelin-star chef Andrew Fairlie for Chef of the Year
The food at the event was, as you might image, top notch. Curated by four award-winning chefs, the menu featured sockeye salmon ‘Big Mac’ canapés by Alyn Williams (The Westbury), charred mackerel, salt-baked turnip, bacon and horseradish broth by Gary Usher (Sticky Walnut, Hispi and Wreckfish), Glencoe venison loin with buttered autumn greens and barolo jus by Gary Lee (The Ivy), and a seasonal Eton Mess tart by Ben Marks (Perilla).
