Knightsbridge department store Harrods opens its elegantly refurbished new restaurant, The Georgian, with bespoke interiors by Christopher Guy Harrison

The Georgian, which reopens today at Harrods has collaborated with bespoke interior designer Christopher Guy Harrison for a fresh new look. The renovation comes with an expertly crafted redesigning of its famous afternoon tea menu.

The historic restaurant, which originally opened in 1913, was intended to be “a Rendez-Vous of Fashion and Luxury”, and within the setting of Harrods, The Georgian is an institution within an institution. The restaurant offers a quintessentially English dining experience including afternoon tea, Champagne and Pimm’s.

The Champagne Afternoon Tea (£47.50) is a special example of English flare and elegance, which comprises a glass of Harrods Rosé Champagne, a dainty selection of sandwiches and savouries, tea pastries, traditional baked scones and clotted cream, strawberry jam and homemade lemon curd. A High Tea menu is also available which offers a variety of dishes such as a smoked haddock and Somerset brie tart, a lobster club sandwich, scrambled eggs with spinach and caviar in puff pastry and a Rosper roasted steak sandwich.

Bringing the celebrated restaurant into a more contemporary atmosphere will surely be a hit with existing and new customers alike. Seeking inspiration from the elegance of the 1920s and 1930s, the room fuses modernism and classicism. Christopher Guy has produced over 500 bespoke pieces for The Georgian, highlights include the carved wood silver leafed panels reproducing the Harrods façade as well as mosaic features that house over 130,000 individual pieces.
