There are two very unwanted waves currently washing over London: Omicron, and hospitality cancellations as a result of the new strain’s emergence. In efforts to minimise the damage caused by both, Pergola on the Wharf are welcoming Londoners to dine in for a small charitable donation…

Canary Wharf’s Pergola on the Wharf is now offering guests a Christmas dinner in exchange for a £5 donation to Hospitality Action, a charity working with hospitality people who find themselves in a crisis or difficulty – like many have since the start of the pandemic.

After receiving a number of cancellations, Pergola will now use up surplus ingredients and support their suppliers and staff by preparing turkey dinners for those who make the small donation to the charity, to help support the industry during these difficult times.

The invitation is available to diners at the restaurant between Monday, December 20 to Friday, December 24, from 12pm to 6pm, and bookings are required.

The meals come with all the trimmings and a veggie option is available too.

Donations can be made at the time of dining, and details on how to make the donations will be available at the restaurant.

Pergola on the Wharf, which opened in June boasts panoramic views over the city from its wrap-around terrace and has ample space for social distancing.

Paul Loebenberg, Operations Director at Incipio Group, Pergola’s parent company, says: ‘Like so many other restaurants and pubs we are receiving cancellations at Pergola on the Wharf. It is our first Christmas trading and we’re determined to finish the year on a high.

‘By offering a free Christmas dinner to our guests, we can remain open for our team who all shared they would prefer to be working, we can support our suppliers and share some goodwill for those in need through our donations.’

The pandemic has been devastating for many working in the hospitality sector. In 2020, Hospitality Action spent £1.36mil and awarded 4,698 grants to those in need.

Close to 150,000 hospitality employees accessed the charity’s Employee Assistance Programme which offers support in team wellbeing, independent counselling, assistance and advice.
