King’s Cross favourite Plum + Spilt Milk realise that a) we care more about what we eat, and b) that breakfast is the most important meal of the day as they launch a new healthy menu.

The Resident:

Plum + Spilt Milk at the Great Northern Hotel, situated next door to King’s Cross station, has launched a new nutritious breakfast menu in time for summer. The menu, designed by Chef Director Mark Sargeant and overseen by Executive Chef Mike Denman, uses wholesome alternative grains and milks, natural sweeteners and superfoods for a nourishing start to the day in one of the capital’s most beautiful dining rooms.

Choices include quinoa porridge made with soya milk, blueberries and almonds (£8.50); buckwheat crepe with strawberries, agave syrup and lemon balm (£9.75); and smoked salmon, spelt muffin, steamed spinach and poached egg (£10). The menu also offers their signature Plum + Spilt Milk morning sundae – low fat yoghurt, berries and muesli (£8.50), in addition to traditional breakfast options such as east coast kippers (£9.75), salt beef hash (£10) and a full English with any style eggs (£17).

Plum + Spilt Milk is located one flight up the hotel’s original grand staircase and overlooks London’s newest public square, the King’s Cross piazza, and the newly restored original Victorian façade of King’s Cross station. The restaurant’s name originates from the livery colours of the dining cars pulled by the Flying Scotsman. Three-metre high, floor to ceiling sash windows allow light to flood into the interior, which features 120 hand blown glass pendants and banquette based furniture, handmade by Boffi of Milan to a bespoke design.
