JASON ATHERTON’S CITY SOCIAL LAUNCHES
Look to the sky as Jason Atherton’s City Social launches on the 24th floor of Tower 42 in Central London
Renowned Michelin starred chef and restaurateur Jason Atherton, in partnership with Restaurant Associates, has launched City Social within iconic skyscraperTower 42. Situated in the City of London, the 90 cover venue features Art Deco style interiors, created by award winning designers Russell Sage Studios, against the backdrop of the stunning London skyline from its location on the 24th floor. Head chef Paul Walsh (previously sous chef at Royal Hospital Road) has worked closely with Atherton to design the City Social menu that features creative yet simple dishes, showcasing the best of British ingredients.
Atherton comments: ‘Restaurant Associates and my team are really excited to have opened City Social. Customers will walk into my restaurant from the lifts and immediately see the Gherkin, The Cheesegrater, and all those iconic buildings that have shot up in London over the past decade, right in front of your eyes. The restaurant is serving beautiful cuisine in a glamorous environment.’
The City Social menu has been carefully crafted to complement the stunning views from Tower 42. Some seasonal signature dishes available include; English asparagus salad, pecorino cream cheese, soft poached hen’s egg and bone marrow crumbs, and line caught sea bass, deep fried oyster, cucumber, sea fennel and oyster veloute. For the first time ever Atherton has added a pasta and rice selection to the menu. For dessert, customers can enjoy another Atherton debut: strawberry soufflé, macerated strawberry salad, yoghurt sorbet. The City Social bar seats 85 people, and in keeping with the design serves a selection of cocktails inspired by the 1910-1930s prohibition era. Award-winning mixologist Gareth Evans (group bar manager across Jason Atherton’s restaurants) has created simple, short, spirit based cocktails featuring Scotch and American whiskies, gins and cognacs. Some of the unique drinks available include Poddington Bear: Linie Aquavit, Maraschino, lemon juice, peashoot oil, quinine marmalade, egg white, sel gris; and 99 Problems But a Birch Ain’t One: Somerset 3 year apple brandy, birch syrup, lemon juice, mandarin, birch taffy lollipop. Sommelier Nicolas Pierron is on hand to guide diners through the wine list and Andy Downton (previously at Claridges and D&D London’s The Old Bengal Warehouse) is the general manager.
Since the launch of Michelin starred Pollen Street Social, Atherton has gone from strength to strength, launching a series of further restaurants across the world to critical acclaim. His collection of four London restaurants also includes Michelin starred Social Eating House, Little Social and the recently opened Berners Tavern within The London Edition Hotel. As the City of London continues to attract the great and the good of the culinary world, the arrival of City Social will firmly establish the district as one of London’s best foodie destinations.
