La Terraza by Ibérica, Cabot Square

Ideal for warm weather dining, Iberica's outdoor terrace, La Terraza, brings a little bit of European boulevard cafe culture to east London. For food, get stuck into barbequed meat and seafood, Spanish style, or some tapas, and get a jug of sangria to share. Open only in spring and summer though.

5 Caravan, Reuters Plaza

Canary Wharf's outpost of this antipodean-style cafe boasts all the charm, strong coffee and comforting cafe grub as its sister venues do. Serving brunch, breakfast and an international all-day dining menu, the restaurant has a sunny terrace which is great for a post-work drink or a bite to eat, which turns into a suntrap in summer, and comes draped in blankets in winter.

The Lowback is part of the Hawksmoor empire and the first new bar for the steakhouse since it opened its Spitalfields site. Found on Canary Wharf's floating pavilion docks, the sprawling venue has a great terrace from which you can soak up the surrounding cityscape on.
