1 Spinach London Spinach serves some really interesting brunch options, from sweetcorn fritters with avocado, bacon and tomato salsa to spinach and cumin pancakes with baked tomatoes and tzatzki. You can also get your mitts on moreish brioche French toast with roasted plums, Greek yogurt and maple syrup, eggs any way on sourdough (including scrambled tofu) and homemade granola with blueberries and Greek yogurt. 2 Franklin’s Saturday brunch at Franklin’s is a real treat. This Dulwich institution brings the same quality of ingredients, and heartiness, and clean presentation that make their suppers famous to their morning menu, serving up the likes of West Mersea rock oysters, black pudding on toast, scrambled eggs and chorizo, or unbeatable mainstays like the bacon sandwich or full English. 3 The Palmerston *The Palmerston is now under new management and we haven’t had chance to revisit yet* The Palmerston serves brunch on weekends from 10am-11.30am. Choose from the hearty Palmerston Full English with Cumberland sausage, maple-cured bacon, black pudding, tomato, egg, mushrooms, hash brown and sourdough toast. 4 Tart London Tart London, located in the glorious former David Greig grocery, once home to Le Chardon, has a lovely conservatory to the rear and serves brunch daily till 2pm. Weekday brunches include toast and marmalade, smashed avo on sourdough with dukkah and home-baked vegan granola with Greek yoghurt and fruit compote. At weekends, the offering also includes halloumi, avo, poached eggs, chilli relish and mint aioli on sourdough, as well as eggs Benedict and Royale. Gluten-free cornbread is available. 5 Terroirs You might not expect a wine bar to serve breakfast, but Terroirs, which took over from ToastED a couple of years back, does… Open from 9am on week days and 10am on weekends, it’s a great spot to grab something as simple as toast with jam or a bacon sandwich with your coffee, or to linger over smoked salmon and poached egg on an English muffin, a cheddar and chorizo bruschetta, or baked egg with baby spinach and tomato. 6 Brick House Bakery *Brick House Bakery has sadly now closed* Brick House is a stone’s throw away from Lordship Lane and their signature Peckham Rye alone is reason enough to step off the beaten track. Brick House is dedicated to serving up award-winning breads, and the brunch menu really shows this off. Go for something as simply beautiful as the Raisin & Walnut sourdough toast with butter and Brick House jam, or tuck into Gizzie Erksine‘s favourite, shakshuka with spiced tomato and peppers, egg, zhug and yoghurt. 7 The Great Exhibition, East Dulwich This is a bit of a cheat because The Great Exhibition is a 10-minute walk from Lordship Lane, but Saturday brunch here is super popular. For £25 you get a choice of six classic breakfasts (the full English or a vegetarian version; eggs Benedict, Florentine or Royale, and pancakes with bacon and maple syrup), unlimited mimosas and Bloody Marys, plus your fill of toast, jam, tea and coffee. 8 Bluebrick Café The cheery Bluebrick Café is well worth stepping slightly off Lordship Lane. Once a greasy spoon, Bluebrick is now a locally sourced vegetarian bistro, easily spotted because of the signature blue bricks around the door. 9 Boulangerie Jade Boulangerie Jade’s Lordship Lane location offers delicious food served with a smile. It’s quaint and relaxed, perfect to start out your day. For breakfast, they offer Croque Monsieurs for the hungry, homemade granola and yogurt for the healthy, and a French style full English breakfast. 10 Johnnie’s Café It may not be a French pattiserie, but Johnnie’s Café does a breakfast fry up right. Here, breakfast is down-to-earth and hearty. There’s a wide variety of ways to get your morning meal in, the highlight perhaps being the ‘Monster’ which includes egg, bacon, chips, mushrooms, sausage, black pudding, burger and beans.
