Treat mum to afternoon tea or a lovely lunch this Mother’s Day (Sunday 6 March 2016) at one of these five beautiful venues in Richmond, Barnes, Twickenham and Ealing…

1 The Bingham
Afternoon tea overlooking the Thames gets our vote for a particularly lovely way to mark Mothering Sunday, and The Bingham executes this quintessentially British treat perfectly – scones, Devonshire clotted cream, sandwiches and an array of dainty cakes are served, and if you want something a little stronger than tea, you can have a glass of champagne with it too. Choose from the stylish lounge bar (a better choice for larger groups) or the sophisticated dining room, and don a posh frock to make it feel even more special.

2 Annie’s
There’s a reason Annie’s has been thriving in Chiswick and Barnes for so long, and that reason is simple – it’s fabulous. Owner Lorraine Angliss has created dining rooms that are chic and cosy, and also gloriously girly, making either of these local faves a top choice for Mother’s Day. Treat yourselves to a couple of pre-lunch cocktails and the legendary sticky toffee pudding.

3 The Dysart
Lunch at The Dysart is a special occasion, with inventive dishes featuring locally foraged ingredients, and a glorious setting overlooking Richmond Park. Chef Kenneth Culhane has put together a menu that mixes the traditional –roast duck with orange – with the more inventive: charred mackerel with diakon, ginger and champagne, and lunch here is worth lingering over, especially if someone is playing on the restaurant’s piano.

4 The Hampshire Hog
The Hampshire Hog is much more than just a gastro pub – it has a pantry where you can lounge with coffee and browse a selection of artisan products, as well as a shabby-chic bar area and beautiful dining room, where Sunday lunch is served. You can choose from roast beef, pork rack or a whole chicken for two to share, accompanied with a bottle of wine.

5 Charlotte’s Place
Looking for somewhere really special? Chic Charlotte’s Place has sufficient ‘wow’ factor to impress even the toughest of audiences, and is a suitably indulgent choice for Mother’s Day. At Sunday lunch you can get three courses for £30, a bargain when you can choose from the likes of braised veal cheek with foie gras and confit salmon with razor clams. Walk it all off with a stroll around Ealing Common afterwards.
