Located on the same Snaresbrook site where it began in 1834, Forest School is a large, vibrant co-educational independent day school educating more pupils than ever – a total of 1,430, split equally between boys and girls aged 4-18 years.

It is a humane, open-minded school with both feet on the ground and a readiness to be forward-thinking and adaptable. It is also a school where pupils’ all-round personal development is exceptional and academic attainment is high.

Above all, it is a happy school which understands the rich inter-relationship between the curricular, the co–curricular and the pastoral. The Good Schools Guide describes Forest as ‘a powerhouse with a heart’.

Pupils at Forest are split into 14 single-sex houses, and these houses provide a supportive environment which pupils love; they are treated as individuals and develop bonds with their peers and teachers alike, cultivating a sense of pride, loyalty and belonging.

Recently celebrating its 185th year, Forest benefits from a tremendous location: on the very edge of north-east London, it is a city school surrounded by ancient forest, safe but not secluded, and within a diverse, dynamic community.

Forest understands how to create a positive and successful classroom environment and how to facilitate learning, allowing pupils to progress.

There is no one type of pupil at Forest, and the school doesn’t want there to be one.

Teaching and learning culture is strong and clearly understood which ensures pupils of all ages learn the habits, satisfactions, and rewards of hard work. It highlights the skills required for pupils to make the most of themselves as learners, resulting in pupils who are engaged and ambitious for themselves.

Forest has a reputation for building the skills and character pupils require to lead useful and fulfilling adult lives when they walk out of the school’s gates, aged 18.

Forest School’s mission is to provide an absolutely outstanding, distinct, all-round education for every pupil. It achieves this by excellent academic teaching and learning, superb pastoral care and a breadth and depth of opportunities outside the classroom encompassing everything from sport, music, art, and drama, to a huge range of co-curricular clubs and activities.

There is no one type of pupil at Forest, and the school doesn’t want there to be one. Rather, Forest School wants its bright, sparky pupils to live busy lives inside and outside the classroom and to have the opportunity to develop into the best possible versions of themselves.
