London On-Water – a four-day festival of yachting and boating – returns to St Katharine Docks this month, with Mariner’s Retail Village selling everything from anchors to echo-sounders, the America’s Cup live on the big screen, luxury cars to keep the landlubber entranced, and the chance to take one of these magnificent boats for a test drive…
Running from 8-11 June, the show, now entering its third year, has truly found its sea legs, and is set to be bigger than ever. Visitors will be able to take in the extraordinary Spectre 32R race boat, which later in the year will be raced by SUNUS Ocean Racing alongside Notting Hill local Ben Fogle in an attempt to set a new record for the fastest circumnavigation of the British Isles by sea.
The boat also appeared in episode three of The Grand Tour, when Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond disturbed the peace of Venice on the 800HP, 32ft race machine – before being promptly thrown off into the water.
For those of you who prefer the quieter side of life, what London On-Water does well is put on a magnificent display of the latest yachts and boats for sale from the world’s finest brands. Expect to see the likes of Mayfair-based Princess Yachts, alongside other top names like Oyster Yachts and Sunseeker London. There will also be powerboats and RIBs, dinghies and dayboats, and canal boat world.
Fancy taking a boat for a spin on the River Thames? Consider it done with the event’s Book A Sea Trial feature
Each vessel will be available to visitors to view and explore, with luxury yachts and boats to suit every kind of yachting enthusiast, from the occasional weekend sailor to full ocean-going aficionados. Fancy taking a boat for a spin on the River Thames? Consider it done with the event’s Book A Sea Trial feature (note: the Central Basin of St Katharine Docks will be open each day around lunchtime for several hours either side of high tide, but Sea Trials must be booked in advance or at London On-Water at the exhibitors discretion).
The America’s Cup will be shown on the big screen positioned on Marble Quay, next to the famous Dicken’s Inn, bringing you all the action live from Bermuda. And there’s plenty more, including the Mariner’s Retail Village, the dock’s fine cafés and restaurants to keep you well fueled, and the supercar and prestige car showcase for those who want to keep their feet firmly on the ground.
The land-based section of London On-Water is free to enter for all visitors and just a £5 charitable donation if you wish to visit and board the many yachts and boats on display.
