Shrove Tuesday falls on 13 February 2018 this year, so warm up your frying pans and get ready for some of London’s most fun Pancake Day races

1 The Flipping Marvellous Pancake Race at The Scoop, London Bridge
Starting at 12.30pm on 13 February, teams of four from businesses in SE1 will compete to be crowned the winning team of the 6th annual Flipping Marvellous Pancake Race. This pancake race has a unique twist, with not only a flip-off but a treasure hunt as well. Anyone over the age of 5 can join in and compete in the Fastest Flipper Challenge; see how many pancake flips you can do in a minute! The race fundraises for the London Bubble Theatre Company and the Mayor’s Fund for London. You can watch for free and SE1 businesses are invited to enter by registering in advance.

2 Parliamentary Pancake Race at Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster
For the 21st year, members of the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and political correspondents will be swapping their warm coats and woolly caps for aprons and chefs hats. Starting at 10am on Shrove Tuesday, they will be pitted against each other, continuously flipping pancakes to help raise awareness of the work that Rehab does in enhancing the life chances of people with disabilities and others who are socially excluded in the UK.

3 Better Bankside Pancake Day Race at Borough Market
The legendary Better Bankside Pancake Day Race has ‘crêped’ up fast… Every year, Bankside businesses get a team together and compete with their neighbours in a fast and furious pancake-flipping relay. The races will start at 12.30pm on 13 February at Jubilee Place (behind Bread Ahead) with live music accompanying the action and Borough Market’s regular traders will be serving up piles of pancakes. Team entry to the race is £25 and all money collected will go to the local charity Paintings in Hospitals.

4 The Great Camden Market Charity Pancake Race 
For the first time ever, Camden Market is hosting a pancake race. Watch or participate in the competition to be crowned the fastest flipper as the participants race across the market’s cobbled North Yard (by the Amy Winehouse statue), between 12pm and 2pm on Pancake Day. Spectators can cheer on their favourites and gobble down free samples of vegan, gluten-free and traditional pancakes. Team entry to the race is £10. The fastest team will win a three-course pancake meal for four.

5 Leadenhall Market Pancake Race 
Taking place in the handsome and historic Leadenhall Market, this pancake race starts at 12pm outside The Lamb Tavern on 13 February. The competitors run 110 metres into Central Avenue. The winners walk away with free pancakes and the highly coveted frying pan trophy while, for spectators, there will be plenty of pancakes as well as beer and ale on tap at the Lamb Tavern.

6 Greenwich Market Pancake Races 
Are you the fastest pancake flipper in your neighbourhood? Well now’s the time to put your pancake flipping skills to test at the annual Greenwich Market Pancake Races. The races will take place on Saturday 10 February and then again on Shrove Tuesday from 12pm. There will be medals and pancakes for the participants and all proceeds from the event go to the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.

7 The Great Spitalfields Pancake Race at Old Truman Brewery
The Great Spitalfields Pancake Race starts at 12.30pm on Shrove Tuesday, when teams of four, decked out in fancy dress, will dash through Brick Lane’s cobbled side streets in pursuit of the coveted winner’s engraved frying pan. This pancake race supports London Air Ambulance and all participants are rewarded for their labours with hot pancakes.
