Must-Have Metallics: Is Your Kitchen at the Cutting Edge?

With the open-plan movement making the kitchen-diner the room we’re spending more and more time in, home owners are striving for more interesting, functional aesthetics. Enter the metallics trend…

Right on trend, bespoke kitchen design and manufacturing company Roundhouse has launched a contemporary new metallic-wrap finish to add a touch of modern texture to the heart of the home.

‘Matt and high gloss lacquers in kitchens will always be popular but we think it’s important to keep innovating,’ says Roundhouse Director Jamie Telford. ‘Metal wrapped doors and panels and textured surfaces for cabinetry in the kitchen are an emerging trend and Roundhouse is very much ahead of the game as it is the theme of our newest metal wraps collections.’

The new metal wrap finishes include copper and brass in matt-sanded and antique finishes, as well as steel in a blackened finish. The matt-sanded finishes are natural metals that have been sanded and polished – they will oxidise and acquire a patinated effect as they age.

Sanding and polishing the metals, which are then cleaned with an acid solution, achieves the antique finish and blackened steel finish. The hand-applied process results in a variation in the panels, resulting in contemporary surfaces that look sleek but have depth and texture so that they don’t look too uniform and clinical.

The metal wrap finishes have been developed by the in-house R&D team based at the company’s factory in Malvern, Worcestershire, along with a new range of handle-less cabinetry.

The new Urban Metro handle-less kitchen comes in a new highly textured finish, oak river-washed ply – another new addition to the Roundhouse stable of unique finishes.

Check out the new range and finishes at the newly refurbished flagship showroom at 11 Wigmore Street, London W1U 1PE. Roundhouse also has branches in Fulham (020 7736 7362), Richmond (020 8744 9993) and Clapham (020 7471 8834). See roundhousedesign.com
